The figures come from the general conditions of DKV Dentisalud Plus and the official dental franchise schedule. The tariffs and limits that apply to you are set out in the particular conditions of your policy.
How it differs from the others
An ordinary dental policy ties you to a network of clinics. Dentisalud Plus is the only DKV dental policy that works in two modes at once. DKV’s own documentation calls it the first complete dental policy covering both options.
First mode — the DKV network. Some treatments at no cost and the rest at franchise prices, well below the market.
Second mode — any dentist outside the network. You are treated by your own dentist, pay the invoice, submit the originals and are reimbursed, within a limit per act and an annual limit.
The unused limit is not lost
No other dental policy has this. Reimbursement policies normally set an annual ceiling, and whatever you do not spend disappears at the end of the year.
Here the unused amount carries over to the following year, for the first three years of the policy. If you barely visited the dentist this year, that amount is added to next year’s limit.
For someone whose dental spending is uneven this is decisive: nothing one year, an implant the next. The limit accumulates instead of lapsing.
Included at no cost within the DKV network
Diagnosis: consultation, estimate and treatment plan, check-up visits, intraoral X-rays, periapical series, occlusal plate and digital radiovisiography.
Prevention: fluoride applications, oral hygiene instruction, fissure sealants and pulp capping.
Periodontics: diagnosis, pocket measurement and treatment plan, scaling and cleaning, fluoride gel for dentine sensitivity, maintenance check-ups and periodontal charting.
Surgery: simple and complex extractions, root remnants, draining abscesses, suture removal, simple sutures and drains, local, regional and block anaesthesia.
Complex extractions and root remnants require prior authorisation. Scaling and cleaning carries a three-month waiting period.
Franchise prices: a few examples
Filling, €18. Root canal, one canal, €80; retreatment of one canal, €90. Extraction of an erupted wisdom tooth, €15. Prefabricated metal crown, €59. Crown lengthening, €110. Titanium implant, €550. Annual implant cleaning and check, €50. Orthodontic micro-implant, €90.
Compare that with a clinic’s price list — the gap is the point of the policy. On several items Plus franchises are lower than Élite: a filling costs €18 here, €29 in Élite and €39 in Classic.
Conditions
No health declaration is required. Dental conditions that already exist when you take out the policy are covered — unusual in dental insurance, where the opposite is the norm.
The waiting period is three months, both inside and outside the network. That is the price of free choice: the Classic option has no waiting period at all.
Cleanings: as many as the network dentist prescribes. No limit on the number.
Orthodontics: reimbursed up to €361 a year and up to €361 on the full course of treatment, against a prior estimate.
Serious dental trauma: reimbursed up to €6,000 where more than three teeth are affected.
Which option to choose
Classic — network only, no waiting periods, higher franchises. For those who are happy with the network and need treatment now.
Élite — network only, 59 treatments at no cost, lower franchises than Classic. For those who will use the policy intensively. It carries waiting periods on some treatments.
Plus — network plus free choice of dentist, with the unused limit carried over. For those who already have their dentist, are treated abroad, or are saving up for an implant.
And what I always say: before buying a separate dental policy, look at the dental cover your health policy already includes. Integral, Profesional, Modular, Mundisalud and Residentes all carry it, in some cases with 47 or 50 free treatments. Very often a separate policy is simply unnecessary.
This is the collective modality of the DKV Dentisalud range — all of them are compared there.
Typical tasks that this policy solves
I suggest Dentisalud Plus in one specific case: when someone already has a dentist they trust and does not want to change. It is the only DKV dental policy that allows this; with all the others you depend on the network.
The second case is foreigners who have their teeth treated back home. They go, get treated, send the invoices and receive the reimbursement. With a policy tied to the Spanish network that is simply impossible.
The third thing, which almost nobody knows when signing, is the carry-over of the limit. If you barely saw a dentist this year, the unused amount is not lost: it is added to the next year, for the first three years. For someone saving up for an implant the policy literally works like a savings pot.
What I warn about at the outset: there is a three-month waiting period here, inside and outside the network. Classic has none. If a tooth hurts today, Plus will not help you — take Classic, or get treated now and take the policy for what comes later. This is one of those cases where saying “not today” is worth more than making a sale.
