What this policy is
DKV Renta Baja Laboral PYMES is the same sick-leave benefit mechanism as the individual Renta products, but written for a company: 2 to 49 insured people on one contract, one receipt, one renewal date. Three categories can be insured: self-employed partners in the company and the self-employed employer, employees, and self-employed family members working in that company. What it gives the employer
There are usually two motives, and they are quite different. The first is protecting yourself. If the business rests on one or two self-employed people, their sick leave stops the revenue entirely while the costs carry on. The second is keeping people. The state benefit replaces only part of a salary, and an employee who falls into a long absence loses noticeably. The policy closes that gap. In sectors where staff are hard to find, this works better than many other allowances. The beneficiary can be either the company or the employee — that is chosen when the policy is written. The hospitalisation cover depends on that choice as well: it applies only where the beneficiary is the insured person. Two benefits that add up
This is arranged better here than in individual Baremado. The table payment arrives at the start of the leave, on the opening certificate. There is no need to close the leave or wait for the return to work. The classic payment comes into play if a complication of the illness or injury drags the leave out and it lasts from day 91 to day 365. And here is the key point: it works even if the table payment has already been received. In individual Baremado the continuation from day 90 is a paid option; here it is part of the main cover. There is also hospitalisation: the same daily amount for every day as an inpatient, up to 365 days.Medical assistance following an accident
This is the only optional cover, and its limits are set out plainly. Within DKV's network, no limit, for one year from the date of the accident. Outside the network, up to €1,803. Emergency transport and transfers are separately capped at €1,000, as are orthopaedic appliances and prostheses. DKV is the only company offering unlimited medical assistance after an accident within its own network as an add-on to an incapacity policy. What else is included
The special payment for birth or adoption — twenty times the daily benefit, in one sum. If the leave drags on while a test is awaited, DKV covers the cost of the test and provides the clinic. Telephone medical advice and a second medical opinion for serious illness. The MEDICARD® card for quick identification at clinics. Access to reduced prices through DKV Club Salud y Bienestar. How it is set up
One contract and a single receipt in the policyholder's name, but an application is completed for each insured person — group cover does not remove the individual questionnaires. There is a rule worth knowing in advance: if the group is reduced to a single insured person, it loses its status as a group, and at renewal the policy becomes an individual contract. For a three-person company where two people leave, that means recalculated terms. The price is worked out by occupational risk group and by four age bands: 16–39, 40–49, 50–59 and 60–65. A group of young manual workers and a group of middle-aged office staff will therefore be priced differently on the same daily benefit. What it goes with
The natural companion is health insurance for the same group: PYMES Especialistas, PYMES Integral or PYMES Mundisalud. Renta pays cash for days of incapacity and the health policy pays for treatment — together they cover both sides of the same situation.Situations this policy solves
Staff
Mandatory Employee Life Insurance according to Collective Agreement (Convenio)
The policy is written for the company: 2 to 49 insured, a single receipt, but one application per insured person.
Finance
Business Interruption and Loss of Income Insurance
If the business rests on one or two self-employed people, their sick leave stops the revenue while the costs carry on.
Responsibility
Employer’s Liability Insurance: RC Patronal Protection in Spain
Medical assistance after an accident as optional cover: unlimited within DKV’s network for one year, up to €1,803 outside it.
Life
Disability and Loss of Earnings Insurance
If there is a complication, the leave extends from day 91 to day 365 — and that payment comes on top of the table payment already received.
Cardiology
Insurance Coverage for Emergency Cardiac Surgery and Heart Attack Care
A serious case is covered twice over: the table at the start and the daily benefit afterwards, up to 365 days.
Traumatology
Insurance Coverage for Spinal Diagnostics and Herniated Disc Treatment in Spain
Hospitalisation is paid at the same daily rate, up to 365 days, where the beneficiary is the insured person.
Service
Emergency Service for Business: 24/7 Support Included in Your Insurance
If the leave drags on while a test is awaited, DKV covers the cost of the test and provides the clinic.
Traumatology
Insurance coverage for ligament surgery and arthroscopy
The price is worked out by occupational risk group and four age bands: 16–39, 40–49, 50–59 and 60–65.
Agent's opinion
I do not explain this policy to employers through care for their staff, but through arithmetic. If someone goes off sick for three months, the company loses money either way. The only question is whether that loss comes out of turnover or out of the insurer.
But the strongest thing here is something else. In individual Baremado, the continuation of payments after day 90 has to be bought separately, and clients regularly economise on precisely that, then get caught. In the PYMES version that cover is part of the main package, and it works in addition to the table payment already received. So in a complicated case the person is paid the table amount at the start and the daily benefit afterwards, up to 365 days. No individual variant is built that way.
What I warn about at once. The single-insured rule: if the group shrinks to one person, at renewal the contract becomes individual. For small companies with turnover of staff, that is a real scenario, not a paper clause.
And about the choice of beneficiary. If the company is named as beneficiary, the hospitalisation cover does not apply — it exists only where the insured person is paid. That is worth thinking about before signing, not at the moment of a claim.
I mention separately the small businesses with foreign staff, of which I have many. Someone who has recently moved usually has neither savings nor relatives nearby, and a long absence hits them harder than a local. Employers who understand that take out this policy not out of generosity, but so as not to lose their people.
