Healthcare for staff when a conventional policy is out of budget

Most companies run into the same wall: full health cover for the whole workforce costs so much that the conversation ends before it starts. All the more so with a large headcount and mid-range salaries.

DKV Sanify Empresas approaches it differently: not full cover, but the most-used specialities at €14.50 to €17.50 a month per person. That is the price at which looking after the team’s health becomes a realistic conversation at all.

What to understand from the outset

This is not a full health policy. There is no hospitalisation, no surgery, no broad directory of specialists. There are seven areas — the ones people use most often — and they use them without waiting lists.

General practice, nursing, orthopaedics and trauma, paediatrics for children under 14, gynaecology, ophthalmology and dermatology. Consultations are unlimited. Plus an annual gynaecological check with ultrasound and cytology, one blood and urine test a year, and physiotherapy up to 20 sessions.

No barriers at the point of contracting

No age limits and no health questionnaire. That is unusual: this is exactly where older employees and anyone with an existing condition normally fall out. Here everyone is accepted, and everything works from day one — there are no waiting periods.

For an HR department that means the policy can be taken out for the whole workforce at once, without working out who would pass underwriting and who would not.

Psychological support, which is often the real reason

Ten sessions a year by video call, for consultation or therapy. Plus DKV Omm, a space in the app with content and practices for managing emotions.

In practice it is the first thing staff start using, and what companies later point to as the most visible change.

What else is included

Video consultations across all covered specialities — the employee does not need to ask for time off or travel. Dental care: consultations, X-rays, fluoride treatments and minor procedures across the Sanify network in Spain. A DKV doctor by phone around the clock, plus the specialist lines: paediatric, women’s health, nutrition, sports and tropical medicine.

In the app: a digital card from day one, online booking, a health folder for tests and reports, and e-prescriptions on the phone.

Anything outside the cover is available at preferential prices in private centres: refractive surgery, audiology, assisted reproduction, sleep apnoea and CPAP, smoking cessation, pelvic floor rehabilitation, orthopaedics. And one unexpected item: 50% off obtaining a driving licence.

The environmental part

The company receives a carbon footprint calculation for its office along with proposals to reduce and offset it, plus discounts on non-toxic cleaning products and eco-certified paint. For companies that report on sustainability, that is a box already ticked.

Which companies it suits

Above all those with many employees where a conventional policy is not even discussed: manufacturing, retail, services. Young technology companies and scale-ups, with young teams that are not yet thinking about full cover but do care about their standing as employers.

And specifically, companies with flexible remuneration schemes: Sanify slots in there as an additional option. Also those wanting to turn a voluntary group scheme into a compulsory one: start with Sanify and scale up later to a full product if needed.

Who it does not suit: if the aim is to cover hospitalisation and surgery for employees, this product does not do that. For that you need the PYMES range or Integral, and we cost out both options.

Agent's opinion

I put Sanify forward where the conversation about staff healthcare usually ends at the first figure. The company wants to offer its people something, looks at the cost of full cover for fifty employees, and drops the subject.

Here the price is different, and that changes the conversation. But I say from the outset that this is not health insurance in the usual sense: there is no hospitalisation and no surgery. There are seven specialities, the most used ones, plus psychological support and dental care.

What is separately valuable is that they ask neither age nor health. That is normally exactly where things get stuck: a workforce includes people over sixty and people with diagnoses, and you cannot cover everyone. Here you can, in one go.

And if what the company actually needs is hospitalisation and surgery, that is the PYMES range or Integral — in which case I cost out both options and show the difference in money.
