Both options carry a three-month waiting period from the moment they are taken out. The guarantee can be added as an option on a new policy and also by endorsement to a Hogar GO! policy already in force, with no need to rewrite the contract.
The list of guarantees and the limits are taken from the Zurich Hogar GO! modality sheet and the general conditions of March 2026. The figures are maximum sums per guarantee; your own limits and excesses are set out in the particular conditions of your policy, which we go through before signing.
What this policy is
Zurich Hogar GO! is a modular home insurance policy. It is built from three modalities —
Sencillo, Estándar and Total — and adapts to how the property is used:
your main home, a second home, or a flat you let out. Any individual over 18 and any company
can take it out, whether or not they own the property.
The continente — the structure, walls, finishes and fixed installations — and the
contenido — the furnishings and belongings — are insured separately. The sums are set by
floor area and by what is actually inside.
What is new in 2026
- Electrical damage at 100%, on two levels. At the basic level appliances are covered
if they are seven years old or less. The extended level removes that age limit — and it is worth
knowing that the limit also disappears without the extension if you call out Zurich’s own
repair service rather than your own tradesperson. - Glass, mirrors and worktops, also on two levels. Kitchen worktops, solar panels and
ceramic hobs have been added.
Illegal occupation
This guarantee has a three-month waiting period and comes in two packages. The
essential one covers telephone legal guidance, the court proceedings to recover the property
(notary, lawyer and procurador, experts, costs, court fees, mediator, locksmith at the eviction
and enforcement of the judgment), a claim for damage to the building, temporary accommodation
where the occupied property is your main home, and utility bills run up by the occupiers beyond
normal use. The extended package adds deliberate damage to the building and its contents.
The caveat that causes most misunderstanding. Illegal occupation does not include
a tenant with a rental contract, even one who has stopped paying, nor any case where someone
entered with the owner’s consent. The property must also be capable of being secured: without
sound doors, windows and walls the guarantee does not operate. Graffiti, damage that predates the
occupation, damage caused by your own neglect of the property, and damage not reported to the
police are all excluded.
If the property is let
Property let to tenants has a guarantee of its own: tenant vandalism. It covers damage
to and theft of parts of the building caused by the tenant, established by a loss adjuster after
they leave. Maximum €3,000, with an excess equal to one month’s rent and a minimum of
€500. One condition is essential: documentary proof of the state of the property when the
policy was taken out. Wear and tear, scratches and graffiti, and broken glass are excluded.
Where the policy applies
As a general rule, to the property named in the policy. Wider cover applies to: mugging away
from home (worldwide, except countries in armed conflict), family civil liability and liability
for dogs requiring special handling (worldwide, except the USA, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico),
and belongings while travelling (worldwide).
A specific point for those living outside Spain. Where the insured’s habitual
residence is abroad, cover is limited to claims brought under Spanish law and arising from damage
that occurred in Spain. For owners of a second home in Spain this is the decisive clause, and we
go through it before signing.
Extension packages
On top of the modality you can add the Esencial or Ampliado package. Both include
temporary uninhabitability, removals and storage, an emergency locksmith and an emergency
electrician. Ampliado adds belongings in transit and while travelling (main home) and tracing and
forwarding of luggage (main home and second home).
Discounts
If your residents’ association holds other Zurich policies, a discount applies. A general
excess across all guarantees can also be agreed: it lowers the premium but does not apply to civil
liability and bonds, legal defence, cover extensions or fraudulent card use.
What it does not cover
Inherent defect in the item and manifest lack of maintenance, armed conflict, nuclear energy,
the mere passage of time and wear, and bad faith on the part of the insured. Bulbs and light
fittings fall outside the electrical guarantee, as do failures caused internally by the appliance
itself or by mishandling.

Typical tasks that this policy solves
Agent's opinion Home insurance is almost always chosen on price, and almost always in the wrong direction. The difference between Sencillo and Estándar is not the number of lines: it is that in Sencillo civil liability is €150,000. One serious leak into a renovated flat below can exceed that. Estándar raises it to a million and Total to two, and the premium gap between them is small.
The second thing to decide early: the illegal-occupation guarantee only starts working after three months. Taking it out “when it is needed” is by definition too late. And it does not cover a tenant who stops paying — that is a different problem with a different remedy.
If you live outside Spain and the property is here, we will go through the territorial clause together: it reads differently for you than for a resident owner.
