What kind of insurance should I buy to get a residence permit in Spain?
The Spanish Migration Service has specific requirements for private health insurance. A regular policy will not work here — we need a complete alternative to the state system.

Criteria for an ideal policy
According to the 2026 regulation, the insurance company must be authorized in Spain, and the contract itself must include:
- Full coverage of all medical services without exceptions.
- No limits on the total amount of insurance coverage.
- A specific certificate in Spanish for Extranjería.
- The policy is valid for at least 1 year.
It is important to remember that migration authorities often check for so-called waiting periods (carencias). We select policies where these periods are either minimal or absent for basic services.
